Birthday Gifts is a counted cross stitch chart from Hummel for cross stitchers who prefer to use their own fabric and thread. In a small Bavarian village a young girl named Berta Hummel took pencil to paper to catch children's moments of warmth, simplicity and innocence. By 1934, the girl, now Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel of the order of St. Francis, created drawings under the guidance of the publishing house Ars Sacra in Munich. From postcards published by Ars Sacra, Franz Goebel and his sculptors interpreted the drawings into figurines. All sales made under the name Hummel and M.I Hummel contribute to the Convent's charitable missions. Through Sister M.I Hummel's art, thousands of her so beloved children all over the world receive help and education.
